Encropresis is the term used for lack of control of bowel movements for anyone over the age of four . The leakage may occur during the day or night and it is NOT under the conscious control of the child.
Soiling, fecal soiling, and fecal incontinence are alternate terms used for this behavior.
Encopresis is fairly common in children and toddlers; 1-3% of children over the age of four are known to have encopresis and encopresis is more common in boys than it is in girls.
There are two types of encropesis:
Retentive Encopresis.
Nonretentive Encopresis also called Functional Encopresis
