I wish I could tell you that this is the best potty chair and then you can purchase it and move on to the next task, however, it is never that simple!!

The reason there is such a large selection of Potty Chairs available on the market today, is that different folks like different things. So the best potty chair for me may not be the best potty chair for you.

So, the best potty chair for you - will depend on your needs, your child's need and how you plan to use the potty chair.

Some questions that may help you identify your needs include:

• Where do you plan to put this potty chair? -
• Are there any space restrictions in your bathrooms?
• Will the potty chair be big enough or small enough for your child?
• Does the potty chair need to be portable?
• Does it need a splash guard for boys?
• Is the opening large enough (lenghth wise) for boys?

You may find that the BEST chair for you may indeed be 2 or 3 different potty chairs and/or potty seats!!

Based on my research, I would categorize potty chairs into five general categories.

1. The basic one piece potty chair
2. Potty Chairs with removable cups
3. The double / triple duty potty chairs
4. Potty Seats - or Adapter rings!
5. Travel Potty Chairs / Seats

Simple, basic one piece potty chair

The Potty Scotty™ Potty Chair

This is a simple basic design and is all that is need for potty training. It will do the job!!

Pros:

• Simple and portable
• Low profile - makes it easy for toddler to get on and off and encourages the more natural squatting position for toileting
• Lightweight and compact Inexpensive

Cons:

• Have to tip the entire potty into the toilet to empty
• Because of low profile and light weight, toddler may ride it like a toy across the floor.
• Too small for larger children

Potty Chair with removable cup

Some parents prefer to have a potty chair with a removable cup. Many different styles, designs and sizes available.

Pros:

• Cup makes clean up easy
• Some models come with lids
• Smaller version can be portable

Cons:

• Cup could cause pinching to child's bottom or thighs.
• Most model are not very portable.

The double / triple duty potty chair

Potty N Step Stool

Some companies decided that there would be valued added by making a potty chair with a step stool (2 in 1). Some even come with a potty seat and a step stool (3 in 1).

Pros:

• Does double or triple duty
• Some also have the cups Some have lids
• Many fancy types available - from animals to cartoons to miniature toilet and urinals

Cons:

• More than needed
• Pricey
• Don't always get the double or triple duty
• Not very portable

Potty Seats, Toilet Seats or Adapter Rings

The Potty Patty™ Toilet Potty Seat

Potty Seats come in all shapes and size and are made for both the standard round toilets, as well as the elongated toilets.

Pros:

• Gets child used to the big toilet and bathroom right away.
• Saves expense of potty and toilet seat
• Great for traveling
• Nothing to empty

Cons:

• Toilet can be too high for some toddler - makes it hard to relax when feet are dangling.
• May hinder independence if child has to be assisted on and off.
• Needs to be removed for adult use.

Travel Potty Chairs & Seats

The Travel Potty Chairs and Seats have been developed recently as we become a society that spends a lot of time on the go and away from home!!

Pros:

• Made specifically to be portable and disposable
• Easy to carry with you when on the go!!
• Inexpensive & affordable to have mulitples of.

Cons:

• Not designed for every day use
• Additional expense
