Potty Seats or Potty Chairs? What is the difference?
Why use one over the other for potty training?

Some of the cons involved with a potty chair are; Firstly the portable aspect.

You may not want your child to be able to move his or her chair around your home, if this is an issue then consider purchasing a heavier weight chair that can inhibit the mobility.

The other concern is that when you are using a potty chair there is going to be a transitional period for the toddler to get used to using the "Big Girl or Boy Toilet"; which at that point then you will need to purchase a potty seat to be able to accommodate this transitional period.

Concerning the potty seat there are almost just as many pros and cons as with the potty chair that we shall cover.

Some of the most notable pros concerning the potty seat follow. Firstly, there is no transitional period with choosing a potty seat .

When potty training and employing the use of a potty seat solely, you will save the extra expense of purchasing two items.

With a potty seat there is no clean up process to contend with, all that you do is flush the toilet. If you travel the majority of the options are portable .

These potty seats can fold into a size that can easily be slipped into your diaper bag and be used anywhere, another aspect to this is if your child is uncomfortable with change then it will not be an issue that you will have to contend with.

There are few concerns with choosing a potty seat for you primary potty training tool. The first concern is that the toilet is too high for children to be able access alone therefore they will need assistance via the caregiver or a stepping stool.

That point leads to the dependency on the caregiver, this simple aspect could deter your child from using the toilet effectively and can present some challenges for not only the child but the parent as well.

Due to the height of conventional toilets they do not have the reach to be able to assist them with the process. Just as with an adult a child needs to be able to plant their feet on something to be able to allow their sphincter muscles to relax to be able to effectively use the restroom.

With a potty seat it has to be removed in order for an adult to use it, which can be an issue if guest or other family members are using the bathroom.

As you can see your decision on which route to take in this developmental process is more evolved than most think.

There are several different aspects to either choosing a potty chair or potty seat and it truly depends upon what is the best fit for your family environment. Though our experience we have found that using a Potty chair first then transitioning into the potty seat provides the child with the foundation of using the bathroom.

Therefore, the best course of action is to employ both of these wonderful tools to ensure that your child is encouraged and has options to choose from that they as well as you, the parent, are comfortable with.

We hope that we have presented you with enough valuable information for you to be able to make an educated decision.
