Hello Sonia,

Thank you for your post. Wow, you had a great success with your son. Congratulations!

O.K., reality check - - you are having a bit of a challenge now so let's not celebrate too much.

First, change definitely could trigger potty training resistance (or regression). But so too can the "terrible two's". When transition such as a new sibling occurs, children become insecure, frightened, and unfocused. They don't necessarily regress on purpose, it's just the result of the stress due to the change. So, yes, it could simply be due to the new baby, but I wouldn't necessarily say it is an intentional, attention-getting strategy. Just keep an eye out for his overall behavioral patterns.

Is he demanding more attention and/or regressing in other areas? If so, he may be entering into an undesireable phase of self-mastery. If this is the case, the best solution is to take a break and resume training in a few weeks.

Hopefully you will find this information useful. Please give us an update when you can.

Michaelyn

okay here's the thing i started potty training my boy before he was even 1 year old. He was doing great he always told me when he wanted to go, and i never cleaned his diaper again....but now that he's 2 he goes in his diaper? why is this? could it maybe be because he wants attention, now that i have a 6 month old baby??

Or the closest thing I can create…

CLIO’S POTTY TRAINED!!!!!!!!!

I take back most of the sarcastic humor I have dished out at Dr. Phil’s expense.

We received Potty Patty and accessories on Tuesday. Clio played with the doll as a “baby” Tuesday and Wednesday and we planned for her “Big Day” on Friday. Clio was so excited that she started it on Wednesday evening and has been dry for 2 days!!!! Self-initiating and everything.

Needless to say I am soooooo relieved. After 3 other tries with me feeling like a duck out of water. She even today woke herself up from her nap because she had to go.

Just wanting to share the good news,
