At three to four weeks of age an infant does not have any control over his or her body, especially not his or her bladder. An explanation for "thinking" one can potty train an infant at this age is that a parent can learn an infant's patterns. Once a parent understands the infant's patterns, e.g., urinates immediately after a feeding, the parent can then put the infant on some kind of device that can catch his or her excretions. I'd really hesitate to call this potty training since a child who is potty trained must have some cognitive understanding of the process he is she is participating in. My advice is to spend ones time better understanding an infants sleep pattern, so mom can get some sleep as well. |

i feel that potty training should be done when the child shows an interest in the potty. my son will follow me to the bathroom and sit on his own little potty. he has not quite mastered going on the potty but he will pull his pants down, take his diaper off and sit there like he is practicing. each child is different and it depends upon the child wanting to use the potty as well. i am thinking about switching to under pants to make him feel more ready for the potty but i am not sure how this will work out |

www.diaperfreebaby.org I am potty training my baby and she is fantastic! She grunts when she has to go peepee or poopoo. I tell her, "You wanna go potty?" Then, remove her diaper while sitting on a small bench in fron of her BabyBjorn Potty. She sits down plays a little, cues herself while I cue her (making the pssss.... sound). She starts to stand up when she is done. I use the ASL for: potty, and finished/done. It works great. |

Yes, this is very possible. A co-worker friend of mine's mother potty trained her infant. She used sound cue's to train the infant. This was good and bad from the mother's perspective. Good - they never had to mess with changing diapers but bad - because the parents had to be very responsible about cuing the baby to go potty so that she didn't get any bladder infections, etc. The baby needed to go much more often than an adult so this did become cumbersome. Also, from some friends that have been to Germany, I understand that actual reclined infant potty seats exist to help facilitate their training. I was hoping to go this route with my second pregnancy, but it ended up being twins so I decided it was going to be too hard to manage in the end. |
