I did not expect to potty train my first child so early. When my daughter was 4 or 5 months old I noticed she was very unhappy before her BMs and only putting her in her bouncer helped, simply because there she would poop in about 5 minutes! I was glad to find it out and we happily continued the ritual. Then one day when she was over 6 months old the bouncer broke under her... I did not want to buy a new bouncer, since she was already too old for it ane sitting very well unassisted. I tried with a new rocking chair - didn't work. Car seat (she happened to poop there once or twice) - nothing. She was crying and did not have a BM in a day and half, while normally she had 3-4 BMs daily. Finally I got a crazy idea to buy a potty. On the internet I found a kind I believed would be fine for a 6 months old baby and we rushed to the store to buy it. The next morning I put the potty in the spot where her bouncer used to be and... she loved it and pooped in it. And used it ever since for her BMs. Nethereless, everybody who wishes to be so lucky, should know the other side of that success - imagine having to takea potty with you or lead home every time you little one has a BM, because she would not do it in any other way... And if anyone wonders, she really could keep her BM to get to her potty. Now she is over 3 years old and she has been a good example for our 14 months old son. He is not potty trained yet, but he announces his needs every single time. Actually "pee-pee" was the third word he started saying right after "mama" and "dada". I have no doubt all we need for him is just another potty or seat that he will find comfortable. |
