Help! My daughter's big day was today. She had started potty training herself over the last couple weeks. She would just pee in the potty on her own. I did my homework, read the books, and started the "formal" training today. My question is, how stressful should the "practice runs" be? My daughter HATES them. I know that they are supposed to be a deterrent. But she's now had 4 accidents in a row, and I think she's afraid to use the potty now because of the practice runs? We can only get through about 7-8 practice runs after an accident. She's absolutely screaming, lying on her back, crying, etc. Is this "normal"? |

Hi Jen, Thank you for your posts. I certainly can understand your concern. Potty training is much like other training, teaching, and disciplining issues - - you have to modify your approach to meet the needs of your child. The Potty-Training-in-One-Day Method is one of five potty training methods from which to chose. It is not necessarily the right answer for every child. Nor do you have to apply the method exactly as it is written. The idea is to make sure your child knows the process, practices the process (taking on and off the clothes), and understands there are consequences. Consider modifying your approach, and take comfort in knowing the training process won't last forever! Good luck, and please let me know how it goes. Narmin |
