I was wondering what was considered an accident? If they make it to the bathroom, but either go in their clothes or on the floor after they have pulled down their pants and underware, is it considered an "accident"? Once they are daytime potty trained, how long do you suggest before trying nighttime? My daughter is 3 and is JUST potty trained during the day, but not at nap or night. Any suggestions on how long to wait? Any suggestions on how to train for night/nap?

Hi Sheila,

Potty training is a process and success can be somewhat relative.

Having said that, I would say "daytime potty trained" would typically refer to a child that had very rare accidents during the day. The child would no longer be wearing diapers, and may or may not be able to make it through the night without wetting.

Realize that nearly all children will have occasional accidents for various reasons. A child can be accident free for six months, go to the zoo, a friend's house, or be at a party at school and forget to go potty. They might be angry, frightened, or excited and accidently let go. It just happens.

I'm not sure from what perspective you are asking the question. Rest assured, if your child is having an accident every now and then, and others are pressuring or criticizing, you're not alone. Focus on your child's emotional well-being and don't worry about what others are doing.

Good luck!

Narmin
