Hi!My son is three years old and can go when he really wants too. I have done the sticker chart have done the rewards. They work for awhile and then he doesn't want to do it any more. There will be times where he will be in the bath tub get out and go. If i ask him he'll tell me no. I will take him in the bathroom to go and he aready went so I will clean him up set him on the potty and somtimes he will go and somtimes he won't. Now for about two- three months when he goes poop he always gets bad rashes on he butt. Most of the time if I can I put the poop in the toilet and let him flush it, keep his pull-up in the bathroom call them underwear, clean him up in the bathroom. We have three different seats that he can choose from. He knows what to do and where how do I get him to do it. Thanks Theresa |

Hi Theresa, I realize you probably don't want to hear this, but you need to get your son out of the pull-ups and into true underwear. You run the risk of confusing him by allowing him to stay in pull-ups and further confuse him by calling them underwear. If you are confident he knows what to do, I challenge you to let the diapers go. Send him one clear message - - that it is only acceptable to go poo on the potty. Get rid of those diapers! It seems you've tackled most of the environmental issues, giving him the choice of three potties, etc. But you might want to consider some other possibilities as to why he might be having poop accidents. Does he have trouble with just pooping in the potty or does he have urine accidents too? If it is both, the problem is more one of overall resistance to potty breaks, in which case accurate identification and use of his currency can really help. If it is just poop accidents, it could be a problem of constipation or even encopresis. If you think this is a possibility check with your son's pediatrician. Good luck, and don't let yourself get too discouraged. He will be trained soon! Please keep us posted on any updates. Narmin |
