To: Mom of Traveling Toddler Thank you for your post. I can definitely understand your frustration, but don't be discouraged. Your son's set-back is very likely a temporary problem. It is quite common for a fully trained child to regress when a major change occurs in his life and traveling to Greece (assuming point of departure was U.S.) definitely qualifies. Traveling is hard on his little body and definitely tests his patience as well. Think of it from a child's perspective. He probably rode in a car for some duration, flew on a plane for hours, took a train or auto to his temporary home, and probably hopped all over seeing the sites. Not being familiar with when or where he might be able to potty, he probably tried to hold himself longer than he would have if he were home. Now that he is home he's got to take a few days to get used to the idea that he's back to a normal, familiar routine. Try to be extra patient when there's an accident, but don't give in to diapers. He will settle in soon enough. There is one other thing you should check out though. Due to the traveling, it is possible he could have a bladder infection. If he didn't drink enough water and/or he withheld from going pee as often as he should, he could have developed an infection. The infection could be causing sudden urges, leaving little time to get to the potty. If you suspect this could be the case, be sure to take him to the doctor for an evaluation and treatment. I wish you the best of luck getting your son back on track. Please give us an update when you can. Narmin |
