I was hoping you can help guide me. We had our Big Day yesterday. My son (2 years, 9 months) did really well - he pooped in the potty once and peed about 5-6 times. We worked through his nap but unfortunately he never initiated it yesterday - he only went when I gave him his prompted reminder or when we were doing practice runs. He woke once in the middle of the night with an accident. I changed him and put him back to bed but a few minutes later I heard him making noise. He was just sitting in bed disoriented. I didn't really think much of it. Today he woke up with an accident in the morning. When I talked about using the potty, he started crying. A total turnaround from his enthusiastic mood yesterday. He was just not acting right this morning. It turens out he has a 102 fever and is just all out of sorts today. I figured we'd start this over in a couple of days. I asked if he wanted to wear a diaper (expecting a yes answer), but he wants his big kid underwear on. (But he doesn't want to sit on the potty seat). So I want to support his desire anyway I can. I figure I'll just plan on cleaning up accidents today and not do practice runs. But I don't want to undo the progress we made yesterday. Do you have advice for how to deal with a temporary setback and still make some progress?

I thought I would update my own post. After the Ibuprofin kicked in and we were able to get my son to eat, he felt well enough to play. At that point he was fine with the potty again! He didn't have any accidents but still did not initiate going to the potty. He did have two accidents in the middle of the night, but as sick and exhausted as he was (his fever was up over 103 at bed time)I'm not surprised. This morning I was THRILLED to have him run in our room naked yelling "I did it! I did it!" He woke up, realized he had to pee, and went all by himself in a bathroom lit only by a nightlight. He has initiated one other time today. (Despite drinking a lot of fluids his body is holding onto them from the fever). He did have a BM accident, but we're well on our way to success!

Hi Brenda,

What a weekend you have had! I am glad your little boy is doing much better. It sounds like he woke up feeling more like himself.

As for the BM, you are right, you are well on your way. Just give him a little more time.

Enjoy the journey!

Michaelyn
