Hi! I'm really looking for some good advice. My daughter is almost 3 1/2. For quite a while I thought she wasn't ready for potty training (she didn't show many signs). Now she always tells me when she pees or poops. I have dedicated days to doing nothing but potty training and she was able to hold it for several hours - and when she finally has to pee...she freaks out and is terrified to go. If I put a diaper on her she will go immediately. I would like to competely take away her diapers during the day, but am afraid it will really overwhelm her. Any suggestions? |

Hi, I really am quite confused. My 3 yr old son who has been potty trained for at least 6 months, holds onto his bowel movement until i find him hiding in a corner red in the face, I ask him if he wants to go to the toilet and he says no, clearley he needs to go. I have been very kind and offered him a diaper for his bowel movements until about a month ago. He has started nursery school and does use the toilet there, however still holds it in until someone sees he needs to go. Tonight he held it in until he soiled his pants, he was crying and aware of what he had done. I feel so sorry for him, please advise me asap. |

Hi Amber, There are some great articles posted on own website under Potty Training Resistance. I would highly recommend you reading the article titled Bowel Movement Resistance and the Potty Training Resistance Details article. They talk about the numerous reasons for kids to resist toilet training for bowel movements including their fears, pressure, complications, etc. and also the complication of putting them back in diapers to specifically poop in them. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. |

If there is no medical reason, will a child's body eventually kick in and force the bowels to evacuate if the child refuses to go? I have a 5 year old boy who is extremely willful. He has decided he doesn't want to "ever have to go again" and can hold it for what seems like forever to me (up to 7 days). Thanks for your input. |
