We believe that our 3 1/2 son is currently in this "negative phase of self mastery". He doesn't mind one iota if his underwear are wet or if he poops himself. Our question is this....How do you know when a child enters into a more positive phase? Do we just do diapers until HE requests to wear underwear and pee/poo in the potty? How long do we "take a break" and let this negative phase pass?
