My daughter is 21 months old and we have been having trouble with her pooping in the tub every so often. She has been showing interest in the potty for a few months now, so we purchased a potty seat and put her on it before bathtime each night, thinking nature would just take it's course, but to no avail. We have not pushed the issue because we've recently had a number of changes in our lives (new house 5 months ago, and baby brother born 3 months ago). At first we just gave her a couple potties to choose from and the opportunity to watch us when we go and to sit on the potty herself occassionally. Last week we decided to ramp up our efforts and purchased training pants and went cold turkey (except naps and nightime). The 2nd day she peed twice, the 3rd day a poop, and after that, no success for days. Also, sometimes she cries and absolutely refuses to sit on the potty when we ask her to (we're trying to use the scheduled breaks method). However, whenever we're out in public she doesn't wet at all, but has to go the second we get home (that was one of the successes on day 2, and an "almost" success yesterday - started while she was standing so some went in the potty as I put her on it). I read a bunch of your tips last night, and tried to use them some today (however, she was at daycare most of the day). I just tried to determine her currency, we'll see how that goes, and did the practice runs, which she had a blast doing, so I don't think that will work for a deterrant. I think she may be a little young, but she is very smart and can verbalize "potty", "wet", "pee pee", etc., and seems to want to learn. I don't want to push her, but fishing poops out of the bathtub is getting a little old. Any ideas? |

Hi Kasey, Well first she needs to show the Signs Of Readiness please read the article. I wouldn't worry to much about the pooping the bathtub, it is the place she is most relaxed in. I would NOT praise the action, but it doesn't sound like she is doing it on purpose, so punishment isn't appropriate. Most kids will do this at one point so try having her sit on the toilet before bath while your running the water and talk to her about going potty, etc. Make her feel conformable and relaxed on it. I would greatly recommend you get you figure out a method that you want to try and do your research on them, here is the link to some of the different Potty Training Methods. Please check out all of the Potty Training Articles we have to offer. There is a lot of good information/resources available on there. |
