My 2 1/2 year old boy does pretty well with the potty at home but refuses to go at daycare. He'll sit on the potty and then say "all done!" jump down and have an accident. His teacher says he almost appears afraid of the potty at daycare. Should we stop training at home and try again later or press forward and hope that he'll eventually get it at daycare too?

Hi Dani,

No I would not recommend you stop potty training.

You need to get everyone on the same page: have a written plan, set an appointment with your caregiver so you have her complete attention, and when you talk to her say, "Here's what we are doing.." at home and have them follow the same method. A lot of the time they are caring for multiple kids and/or they have their own method of potty training. This is why you need to sit down with her and discuss a plan. Your entire team (mom, dad, grandma, caregivers, family, etc) need to be consistent, so whatever is working at home needs to be duplicated all of the time.

A good resource to have is Potty Training for Dummies by Diane Stafford there is an entire chapter over training outside of the home.
