About two months ago I got my daughter ( who was 18 months old at the time) a toilet seat, because she was always telling us she peed or she pooped. As soon as we got the seat I sat her on it once and she kind of freaked out. I didn't push the issue. So now at 20 months she has decided that she is interested again she will go in the bathroom and tell us she is going potty. I have gone in and tried to help her but she still does not want to sit on the toilet (she is really freaking out anymore). Today we tried, and she was standing by the toilet I walked across the hall to get another diaper and I heard a trickle sound I thought wow maybe she did it all by her self, she had gotten into the bathtub and peed. Now I am afraid she may have started something else that could lead to a disaster. |

Hello Kylea; It sounds like your daughter is indeed ready to potty train since she is aware or the urges and can communicate her need with you. You stated you got her a potty seat at 18 months and that she did not take well to it. While every child is different, my son did the same thing when we were potty training him with a potty seat, from what I could discern from the situation he did not like the fact that he felt trapped, since he was not tall enough for his legs to reach the floor. We decided to try an on the floor potty chair and we flew threw the potty training process. As far as her going in the tub, it shows that she has associated the urge with the correct room, and knows that eliminating is messy needs to be cleaned up, so I would look into an on the floor potty, like the ones I linked earlier in the message, very gently correct her, if she uses the tub again, by stating this is for bathing and the toilet is for pottying. Are you using a potty training method? Below I will provide you with a few helpful links that go into more detail as to how to start potty training, The different potty training methods, and how to potty train. If you would look over these pages you will find very helpful information that can ease the anxiety associated with potty training for you and your child.
