I have a very strong willed daughter. She and I have been through a lot in the last few years. When she started showing readiness signs for potty training I was put on bedrest for my pregancny, then I had a baby, and then I almost died and ended up with a hysterectomy. I wasn't able to start training with her until I recovered. She was then well over 3 years old. She loves to sit on the potty to read. We have been doing this since she was 18 months old and she would sit there for an hour (refusing to get off because she is enjoying the book) and "accidentally" pee and poo in there. I thought we were making progress. As she got older she got better control of her pee and poo and no longer used the potty for anything but her reading chair. So I put her in underwear. She has accidents all day long. Up until a week ago she didn't want to be a big girl but insisted she was a baby. She now wants to be a big girl which I feel is big improvement but she still is having no success. She wakes up dry in the morning most of the times. And even though she hasn't gone in 12 hours she still has a hard time going in the potty. I have to have her sit there for a long time for any success at all. Running water doesn't make her pee, pouring water and listening to the tinkle sound doesn't make her pee, privacy doesn't make her pee. I don't know what to do. I read other peoples stories and their children were at least successful at some point in the past or at least have some success during the day. We haven't had a single success. I put her in a pullup for bed but the last two days other than that she has been wetting in her underwear. I'm not sure how much longer I can stand this contant stress and frustration. Any advice for me? |
