Please help us!! I have a 27 month old little girl who has been highly interested in the potty for several months now. She has been asking to go to the potty 5-6 times per day and never actually produces anything. We decided to do the "Toilet Training in One Day" method because that's what my mother did and she swore by it. We have potties for her in every bathroom, a toilet top in the one she uses most, a potty doll, training pants, pull-ups, real panties, snacks & drinks, a sticker chart, and the book which we read twice. My husband took my younger daughter out for the morning so we could do the full method. This was PURE HELL. She does not have much of a sweet tooth and did not want the orange drink, chocolate milk, pink lemonade, apple juice, or coke that I tempted her with. She ate a ton of chips and popcorn and wanted cold water but did not actually pee until 2 1/2 hours into the process. The "10 practice trials" were a total nightmare. She would meltdown by about the 2nd try. Within about 2 hours of beginning the One Day method, she wanted nothing to do with the potty and would freak out if I asked her to sit on it. She has peed on the floor 3 times, in her Pull Up at nap time once, and pooped in her training pants twice. I feel like we have gone backwards. She LOVED sitting on her potty before today. Now she will not even go near it. She cries and tantrums if we force her to sit on it, which is counterproductive because who could pee like that! Please somebody help!! She has not had 1 successful potty attempt and in fact will not longer sit on the potty at all. She was highly excited about this before, so I feel like we have taken a huge step backwards. We're not sure if we should put her back into diapers or just keep her in pull ups or training pants or what, not to mention how to get her back on the potty. I feel like a total failure. This is one of the worst days I've had as a parent. |
