We've been working with our two and a half year old boy with some success, but so far the 10 practice runs are not making him want to use the toilet instead of having to practice, but rather making him not want to go into the bathroom at all (we're using the actual toilet with a child seat added). When we make him go in, he refuses to stand up and won't cooperate with pulling his pants down, etc.

Help! What do we do?

Hello Frustrated Dad,

Take a break! Hopefully you did just that over the holidays.

It is important not to let the potty training process become negative for either you or your son. Here are some things to think about:

1. Be sure your son is ready. It is important that he show readiness in four key areas.

2. Be sure you select a method that fits your son's personality and your goals. There are several methods from which to chose.

3. Realize just what potty training means from a child's perspective.

4. Consider the sit or stand question.

4. And be sure you have all the right supplies on hand.

I hope the above information helps. Take a deep breath, regain your strength, and jump back in when you are ready. Good luck, and please let us know how it goes.

Narmin
