I've been potty training my daughter on and off for about a year. She was three on April 2. I was using a very laid back approach. When she was interested and wanted to do it I took her. When she was resistant I backed off. Finally, last week or so I decided to get serious about the potty and I put her in her big girl panties. I continued to use the sticker reward program we've been using and I made sure to put her on the potty every 40 minutes. The first two days went great with only one accident. However, over the weekend we had a busy day with picnics and BBQ's and a few times we did not make it to the potty in time. Since then (two days now) she's worn her big girl panties and I try to take her every 40 minutes to the potty but most of the time she refuses and then pees on the floor or the couch! A few times she told me she had to go but told me after she had already wet herself. (She has yet to have a BM in the potty). She asked me today to put a diaper on her so that she won't "pee or poop on the floor." Should I? Is this just a minor setback due to the busy weekend or is she not ready yet? Should I go back to diapers and back off? Or should I keep on trying with the big girl panties? This is the hardest thing I have done so far as a parent. I am so unsure as to which way to go. My heart tells me both things- 1) to follow her lead and respect her desire to go back to diapers for now (maybe tomorrow she'll want panties again?) and 2)not to let her give up to teach ehr that it;s okay to make mistakes along the way and she is doing really well. Any advice would be so appreciated. Thank you! Christen Mom to Abbie |
