Potty training boys doesn't have to be hard work. However, as many other things in life, in order for you to have a pleasant and successful "Big Day" you will have to spend some time preparing and planning for this day. The planning and preparation could take anywhere from one hour to a few weeks depending on how ready you and your child are. The time required for the follow-up after the "Big Day" really depends on your child. Some children do not require any follow-up, but others may require more. I potty trained both my children, at 2 and half years old, my oldest son was trained in less than a day. He had about 4 accidents in the next 3 days and that was it. My second child (was 2 yrs and 9 months old) had zero accidents. He went from diapers to "big kid" underwear without any probems.
To help boys, I invented Potty Scotty, a potty training boy doll that is specially designed to aid with Potty Training. Your child will learn by teaching the doll how to go potty. He will start by giving the doll water. Give your child his favorite drink as well. Then your child will remove the doll's "big kid" underwear and will make the doll pee on the potty. Your child will start learning that the natural consequence of drinking is the urge to urinate. The logical consequence of urinating in a potty are rewards such as verbal & non-verbal praise, treats, toys and maybe even a party. Then, your child will teach the doll the natural consequence of not using the potty, which is wet underwear. The logical consequence of this undesired behavior is practicing going back and forth to the potty. It is as simple as that. And it works.
